Queens (Kings) and Bitches

A portrait series celebrating drag, dogs, and joyful self-expression

Queens (Kings) and Bitches is an ongoing portrait series pairing drag queens and kings with canine companions in imaginative studio portraits celebrating connection, identity, and unapologetic joy.

Blending portraiture, performance, and the expressive spirit of dogs, the series explores what happens when individuality, companionship, and a little pageantry share the spotlight.

The result is joyful, colorful, and unexpectedly intimate—portraits that celebrate being fully seen and having fun doing it.

Calling Drag Performers

I'm inviting local drag queens and kings to be part of Queens (Kings) and Bitches.

This portrait series celebrates drag, dogs, and joyful self-expression through imaginative studio portraits created with personality, artistry, and a little pageantry.

Bring your look. Bring your energy. Bring your dog—or meet one of our dog models.

Sessions take place at Kindred Spirit Pet Photography in downtown Middletown, Ohio.

Interested? Let’s connect.

Interested in being part of the project? Send a message to introduce yourself. I’d love to learn more about your drag persona and talk about creating something beautiful together.

The Portraits

Man and small dog in shiny pink and silver futuristic costumes posing together

Small Giant

The saturated magenta and reflective silver bring a sense of play, but the emotional focus remains in the connection between the two figures. The contrast in scale creates humor at first glance, then gives way to something more tender. The downward gaze of the figure toward the tiny companion feels protective; the upward stance of the dog reads almost like admiration. The metallic details catch the light with visible delight, while the softened backdrop keeps the relationship at the center. A portrait that feels playful, warm, and unexpectedly human.

The Showman

A near-monochrome ground of layered grey and black is punctuated with vivid orange, creating an immediate graphic tension. The zebra-print coat introduces a sharp pattern language that plays beautifully against the painterly handling of skin and fur. Most striking is the placement of the dog on the raised crate—an unexpected compositional decision that creates a sense of balance between figure and companion. The matching top hats add wit, while the lean of the figure introduces a subtle diagonal that keeps the eye moving. A portrait where pageantry and control feel perfectly matched.

Rainbow Reign

Loose painterly gestures in grey and lilac create an atmospheric backdrop, allowing the figures to emerge with remarkable clarity. Iridescent pastel tones connect the sequined gown and the dog’s vividly colored coat, creating a visual rhythm that feels celebratory and unified. The seated pose carries the quiet ease of a traditional portrait, while flashes of aqua and pink at the edges bring a contemporary energy to the frame. There’s confidence here without stiffness, and joy without excess. What lingers most is the sense of kinship between subject and companion—luminous, playful, and entirely at ease in their shared world. A portrait of belonging, vibrant and unapologetic.

A Project with Purpose

Queens (Kings) and Bitches is growing into something larger than a portrait series.

The long-term vision is to build this project into a fundraiser supporting organizations that uplift LGBTQ+ communities and animal welfare—celebrating chosen family, companionship, and the power of being welcomed exactly as you are.

Because joy matters.
Visibility matters.
And so does creating something beautiful that gives back.
